The Ministry of Labor headed by Yolanda Díaz says that she will “prohibit” the dismissal of people affected by the DANA who have not come to work for justified reasons. This has been communicated by the Second Vice President’s department, which explains that “any unfavorable consequences for the exercise of absence rights will be null and void”.
The ministry has been warning for several days that people are exempt from going to work in different cases. Firstly, if to go to work you have to travel and this poses a danger to the safety and health of people or interferes with rescue and recovery work. That is, as long as teleworking is not possible.
Absence is also considered justified when the worker needs to attend to missing relatives or take care of their death or if he/she has lost his/her home and belongings and, consequently, is not in a position to go to work. Likewise, absences will be accepted in the event that the worker needs to take care of family members affected by the closure of schools, residences or public services in general. “Telecommuting will be the preferred form of organization and if it is not possible, the employee will be exempted from coming to work,” reminds Labor in its communication.
Yolanda Diaz will meet this Monday with the conseller in charge of the portfolio of Employment, José Antonio Rovira, and with the unions and employers of the Valencian Community to outline measures in response to the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the DANA. The Second Vice-President is scheduled to appear after the meeting, which will begin at 13.30.
