Arturo Pérez-Reverte visited this Monday El Hormiguero to present his new novel, The Island of the Sleeping Womanwhich is already a bestseller. It is a 20th century pirate story set in the Aegean Sea during the years of the Spanish Civil War.
But before we talk about his new work, Pablo Motos wanted the writer to comment on what happened with the DANA in ValenciaThe Government’s management or the visit of the King and Queen of Spain to the area.
“I am living it like everyone else, with astonishment, sadness, indignation and also admiration, because theSpaniards react very well to crises.that makes you feel good, and it is a comfort in a drama like this,” he commented.
And he wanted to emphasize that “on the political side, they have made it clear that they are playing chess with human livesThere has been criminal incompetence on the part of the Generalitat and the Spanish Government. Tragedies bring out the best in the human condition”.
“How is it possible that our country, a first world country, is functioning so poorly when there is a real problem?”, asked the host of the Antena 3 program to his guest.
“Because we have a political class that has made it its business. We citizens are their pawns, they have a criminal bad faith and their only concern is to make the opposition screw up,” said Pérez-Reverte.
The writer pointed out that “it would be necessary to create an organism, the Ministry of Disasters, or whatever it is called, formed by professionals outside politics. The misfortune of this country is called the Spanish political class.and this goes from the extreme right to the extreme left”.
“They are the culprits, and watch out, an angry Spaniard is very dangerous, historically we have seen it.. If yesterday they didn’t take Sánchez out of there they would have killed him, I liked the king’s attitude very much, however,” he stressed.
When talking about that, Motos wanted to know how the writer saw each one in the visit to the disaster area. “Don’t get me into those gardens. Sánchez was Sánchez, the queen who has learned a lot was very good and the king, with that serenity and courage, was super, he stood up with admirable dignity. Mazón was hidden behind,” he commented.
“Result: Remarkable kings and miserable politicians paying the consequences of their miserable behavior.. I think the fact that the kings were accompanied by Mazón and Sánchez was a mistake, they contaminated everything,” he explained.
The Valencian asked the writer if he believed that, after what happened, the politicians involved should resign. “Yes, evidently. Mazón should resign without a doubt and so should Sánchez.but he will never do it. We citizens are paying and will pay the price of this bunch of irresponsible and scoundrels called the political class,” he concluded.
