The reservoirs have again lost water despite the rains of the last few days. Last week, the water reservoir registered a significant increase with the passage of the DANA which caused huge floods in many parts of the country. This time, however, although it has continued to rain in several parts of the Peninsula, the water reservoir in Spain has fallen again, although their numbers are in a much more optimal situation than last year.
This reveals the Ministry for Ecological Transition, which updates reservoir figures every Tuesday.. According to this agency, the water in reservoirs has fallen in these seven days 0.42 percentage points compared to last week, the equivalent of 235 cubic hectometers of water. With this, the reserve now stands at 51.2% of its capacity and has 28,717 cubic hectometers.
Rainfall, however, has been “abundant” on the Mediterranean slope according to the Ministry presided by Teresa Riberaalthough in a manner contrary to the norm, have affected the Atlantic slope to a lesser extent. as stated by the agency. The maximum accumulated precipitation has occurred this week at Barcelona with 144.3 liters per square meter.
With the current numbers, despite the decrease, the reserve continues to stand at a better situation than it was last year. In 2023, the reservoirs were thus in this same week of the year at 43.5% of their capacity with 24,400 cubic hectometers, i.e., they were up to eight points below. The same is true when comparing the figures with those of previous years. In the last decade, this week, the average reserve stands at 46.4%.The water in the reservoir is now up to five points above these records.
The southern and eastern basins continue to improve.
As for the situation by basins, of the total of sixteen into which the Peninsula is divided, the situation continues to be very disparate. The basins located both in the south and east of the peninsula have once again gained water. as they did last week with the DANA. Despite this, its growth this time has been much lower.
In the east, the basin of the Júcarwhere it is located ValenciaThe water capacity of the Valencia basin has grown by 0.4 points and is now at 48% of its total capacity. The internal basins of Catalonia did the same, improving 1.62 points to 33.3%. and that of the Segura, located mostly at MurciaThe Guadalquivir river basin, on the other hand, grew 0.6 points to 18.6%, although it continues to be the basin with the worst data in all of Spain. In the south, on the other hand, Mediterránea Andaluza improved half a point to 27.4%; that of the Guadalquivir improved one tenth of a point to 34.8% and that of the Guadiana also rose slightly to 41.17%.
On the other hand, the northern basins are the ones with the best data, even though many of them have lost water this week due to the lack of rainfall in their territories. Especially noteworthy are the numbers of the internal basins of the Basque Country, at 95.2% this week. Behind it are the Eastern Cantabrian, at 89%; the Ebro basin, at 71.7%; Galicia Costa, at 69.1%; Miño-Sil, at 60.1% or Western Cantabrian, at 58% of its capacity.
