Víctor Ullate, Medal of Cultural Merit of the Government of Aragon

The Government of Aragon will award the Medal of Cultural Merit to the dancer and choreographer Víctor Ullate Andrés, as agreed by the Governing Council. In addition, organized by the Directorate General of Culture, a gala tribute to Víctor Ullate will be held on November 16, which will take place at the Teatro Principal.

The regional executive grants the Medal for Cultural Merit to distinguish the authors of those works or actions that significantly increase the cultural heritage, the collective body of knowledge or the possibilities of accessing them, within the territory of Aragon.

In this sense, Víctor Ullate is a essential figure in the world of dance, internationally recognized, and who has never lost the link with his homeland.where he discovered his passion for this art and began his professional career. His long career as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and director, is an example of full dedication to the art of dance. This Medal of Cultural Merit recognizes his career, his absolute commitment to dance in all its dimensions and his contribution to the dissemination of this art, which he discovered in his native Aragon, inside and outside Spain.

With this same objective of distinguishing his professional career, the Directorate General of Culture of the Aragonese Executive will celebrate on Saturday, November 16, at the Teatro Principal in Zaragoza, a gala tribute that will be attended by the dancer and choreographer. At the ceremony will be screened the documentary ‘Ullate. La danza de la vida’, directed by Elena Cid, and the company LaMov and students of the Dance Studio of María de Ávila will perform.

VÍCTOR ULLATE

Víctor Ullate (Zaragoza, 1947) studied with María de Ávila and began his professional career with Antonio Ruiz Soler. He began his professional career in 1964 in the Ballet Siglo XX, directed by Maurice Béjart, he was also called by Rudolf Nureyev to dance with him in the old English National Ballet. In 1979 he was entrusted in Spain, together with Carmen Roche, the formation and direction of the Ballet Clásico Nacional, currently the Compañía Nacional de Danza, where he remained until 1983, when he began his solo career, with the creation of the Centro de Danza Víctor Ullate, to launch five years later the ballet with his name.

In the year 2000 created the Víctor Ullate Dance Foundation, with the aim of promoting classical ballet and the training of dancers without economic resources. The dancer and choreographer has received numerous awards in his career, including the National Dance Award (1989), the Gold Medal of Fine Arts (1996), the Culture Award of the Community of Madrid (2003) and the Gold Medal for Merit in Work 2016, among others.
