MANILA, Philippines—The UAAP will allow its basketball players to declare for the upcoming 2022 PBA Rookie Draft on May 15.

League executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag announced on Sunday that it is relaxing its rules for the UAAP players, who are aspiring to throw their names in the draft.

“Yes they will be allowed to join the draft without fear of being disqualified from participating in the last two games, probably, of the UAAP,” Saguisag told reporters.

The deadline of application for the PBA Draft is on May 7 and aspirants can withdraw until May 13.

“No need to withdraw right now. The managing directors have recommended it and the trustees have already approved it. And we will come up with a form of resolution so our student-athletes will not have a fear of getting disqualified,” Saguisag said.

UAAP’s postseason will start on Wednesday with unbeaten Ateneo, University of the Philippines, La Salle and Far Eastern University.

No UAAP player has yet to declare in joining the PBA draft.

Saguisag assured that the UAAP will work closely with the PBA to avoid conflicts with the schedule of the rookie draft in the upcoming seasons.

“We will try to coordinate again with the PBA to adjust so there will be no more conflicts. I hope it would be the norm,” he said.

“Just to inform you commissioner Willie Marcial and Eric Castro. Right now, I really have a great working relationship with them. We consult each other really just for the student-athletes and eventually the professional athletes. We will help each other moving forward.”
