The Government will approve in the Council of Ministers of this Tuesday a moratorium on the collection of the second payment of the income tax return for taxpayers residing in the province of Valencia. A measure that will benefit some 200,000 taxpayers according to the Ministry of Finance, and is part of the response plan to the catastrophic DANA that has devastated several municipalities in the region.
“This is a measure proposed by the Ministry of Finance and its holder, the first vice-president, María Jesús Montero, for alleviate the economic situation of a population hit by this natural disaster,” said the department headed by Montero in a press release.
The measure, which is a deferral rather than a ‘forgiveness’ of paymentIt will benefit all taxpayers whose income tax return for 2023 was due and who decided to split the payment in two dates. For the moment, the Treasury has not stated that it will extend this moratorium to those who paid their tax return in one installment.
The Tax Agency (AEAT) has already contacted the main banks in the country. to block the payments scheduled for November 5. In the event that this second payment has already been paid, taxpayers will be able to request the refund, which will be paid “as soon as possible”, according to the department headed by María Jesús Montero.
“With this extraordinary modification, the Ministry of Finance adds to the numerous measures already promoted by the Government to accompany and relieve the victims of the DANA, one of the worst natural disasters so far this century,” adds the note released by Montero’s department. The Valencian delegation of the AEAT will set up a point of attention to assist the affected tax professionals and will activate a telephone number and an e-mail address to contact the IRS.
