The dancer and choreographer Víctor Ullate Andrés has been recognized with the Medal of Cultural Merit of the Government of Aragon at a gala in tribute to his figure.which took place this Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the Teatro Principal. This award, one of the most important in the cultural field of Aragon, highlights his legacy as a national and international reference of dance and link with the Aragonese culture.
The President of the Government of Aragon, Jorge Azcónwas in charge of presenting the award and highlighted the dancer’s impact on culture. “We are proud of a figure like Víctor Ullate and it was a debt that our Autonomous Community had. With this medal we comply with something that is justice: to recognize the role he has played in dance, not only in Aragon, but in Spain and all over the world“, he emphasized.
The mayoress of Zaragoza, Natalia Chuecaalso attended the ceremony and congratulated the honoree. “It is a source of pride that in addition to being a Favorite Son of Zaragozanow also be recognized with the Medal of Cultural Merit. He is one of the most talented dancers we have, and what better place for this tribute than the Teatro Principal, which this year celebrates its 225th anniversary,” he stressed. “I hope our land continues to generate people as talented as Víctor Ullate”.he concluded.
For his part, Ullate expressed his gratitude for the recognition and stressed the importance of Aragon in his artistic beginnings, as well as his satisfaction at receiving recognition from his homeland. “This theater has seen me grow up since I was six years old, when my parents took me to all the performances. This is where my love for art was bornfirst for flamenco and then for classical dance, thanks to María de Ávila”, he shared. He also stressed the importance of this award: “Receiving this medal is an incredible compliment, a reflection of everything I have achieved in my career. I am deeply grateful to the Government of Aragon and to all my fellow countrymen who have come today”.
The dancer recalled the challenges he faced to achieve his accomplishments: “It has not been an easy road, but to have achieved so much for dance in Spain and in the world fills me with pride. Today I feel full, happy and satisfied with all that I have contributed. to this art”. He also highlighted the value of the documentary “Ullate. La danza de la vida”: “It is a very special work for me, because it shows what has been my life and my passion for dance”.
AN IMMORTALIZED LEGACY
The ceremony included the screening of the documentary “Ullate. La danza de la vida”, directed by Elena Cid. This work, which has received awards at festivals such as the Malaga and Saraqusta Film Festival, reviews Ullate’s career and highlights his love for dance. The event featured performances by the LaMov company and a group of girls from the María de Ávila dance school. The gala was a reminder of Ullate’s influence, not only on international stages, but also in the training of new generations of dancers, many of whom today are leading figures in ballet.
Víctor Ullate, born in Zaragoza in 1947, she began her training with María de Ávila. Her career took off internationally when she worked with Maurice Béjart in the Ballet of the 20th Century. In addition to his career as a dancer, Ullate is recognized as a choreographer and trainer, as he has in 1988 he founded his own dance companywhich has been the stage for great figures of contemporary ballet. This recognition highlights his commitment to the cultural heritage of Aragon and universal access to dance.
The documentary “Ullate. La danza de la vida” will be presented at the Palafox movie theaters of Zaragoza this Monday, November 18, at 8:00 p.m.after having won over audiences at several festivals. Awarded Best Documentary at the Fuentes Film Festival, the feature film will include a discussion at its premiere. It will also be shown at the Aragonia Cinemas on November 22.
