The OCU study, in which the following participated 1,070 establishments from 65 cities ands Spanish cities, including the main online supermarkets, analyzed the prices of a shopping basket made up of 238 products from various categories. The results show that Family Cashwith its establishment in the Plaza Imperial Shopping Center in Zaragoza, offers the most competitive prices in the city.
According to this report, the consumers in Zaragoza could save up to 1,583 euros per year by carefully choosing where to shop. This saving is especially relevant considering that the average annual shopping basket expenditure per family in Spain is around 6,000 euros.
The OCU study also reveals that Aragon, and in particular Zaragozaare in a favorable position in terms of food prices at the national level. In fact, Teruel has been identified as one of the most important cheapest cities in Spain for grocery shopping, along with Zamora. It is also important to note that the price landscape in supermarkets has undergone significant changes in recent years. The OCU points out that the shopping basket has become 30% more expensive in the last 24 months, with particularly notable increases in products such as olive oil (75%) and sugar (66%).
This scenario of inflation has led many consumers to change their shopping habits, sometimes opting for precooked and frozen products to the detriment of fresh food. However, the existence of economic options such as Family Cash and Alcampo offers Zaragozans alternatives to maintain a varied diet without compromising their budget excessively.

THE CHEAPEST SUPERMARKETS, BY CHAIN

It is closely followed by Family Cash, Lidl and Consum. This ranking reflects a slight variation from the previous year, where Family Cash topped the list. The study highlights that choosing the the right supermarket can result in annual savings of up to 1,583 euros for a family, underlining the importance of this information in a context of moderate but persistent inflation.
At the regional and local level, the picture is even more diverse. The cheapest chain at the local level is Supermercados Dani, present in Granada and Jaén, followed by Tifer in Castilla y León, and Deza in Córdoba. Family Cash and Más Ahorro, also in Córdoba, complete the top 5 of the cheapest chains when regional and local establishments are considered. In contrast, the most expensive chains are Sánchez Romero, Altoaragon and Amazon. It is interesting to note that some chains have managed to reduce their prices this year, such as Carrefour Express (-0.9%), Lidl (-0.7%) and Aldi (-0.6%), while others such as El Corte Inglés and Hipercor have experienced significant increases.
