Thirty arrested for “looting” at ground zero of DANA are remanded in custody

The Torrent Court of Instruction number 3 has sent 30 people to pre-trial detention as alleged perpetrators of “acts of looting in public establishments” in the devastated area.. “The crimes for which they are investigated range from theft to robbery with force,” said the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community (TSJCV).

The duty courts of Torrent, Catarroja and Alzira -the judicial parties of the areas most affected by the DANA- have received “at least 62 arrested for looting and plundering”.according to the data handled by the TSJCV. The only court that has issued pre-trial detention orders is the one in Torrent. Along with the 30 detainees who have been imprisoned, 32 others arrested for these types of crimes have been brought before the courts and have been releasedin some cases with precautionary measures,” the court adds.

The bulk of the detainees have passed to the disposition of the judicial party of Torrent. The Court of Instruction number 3 has received “a total of 48 arrested, of which 18 have been released”. Among those imprisoned, “the instructor indiciariamente attributed to 15 the commission of crimes of robbery with force in an establishment open to the public aggravated, understanding that they could take advantage of the catastrophe caused by the floods to perpetrate, allegedly, with impunity,” says a statement from the TSJCV.

The other 15 detainees in custody are being investigated “for a continuous offense of robbery with force or theftin both cases “both with the previous aggravating circumstance and with the aggravating circumstance of belonging to a criminal group”. As reported by the Superior Court of Justice, the Duty Court of Alzira has received “seven alleged perpetrators of acts of looting and looting in stores”, and all of them have been provisionally released without precautionary measures, “although with the obligation to appear in court at the time they are required”.

Another seven detainees have been sent to the Duty Court of Catarroja and were subsequently released on bail, with the obligation to appear monthly in court, “for allegedly committing thefts in bars, supermarkets and stores in different towns of that judicial district.
