The road passenger transport strike, suspended in its convocation for November 11, 2009. in solidarity with the areas affected by the DANA in Valencia, will be reactivated after the gradual improvement of mobility in the region. The scheduled strike days will take place in the near future on the following days November 28 and 29as well as the December 5, 9 and 23. After that date it will become indefinite if no agreement is reached between the parties involved.
The first strike was on October 28when the passenger road haulage and self-propelled crane sector rose up to make various demands.. The main one is to demand the application of reduction coefficients that allow early retirement at 60 years of age. for professional drivers, a demand that seeks to recognize the hardship and dangerousness of this profession. According to the trade unions, this measure is key to improving the welfare and safety in the sector, while contributing to its long-term sustainability.
The trade union organization has assured that during the strike days, services operating in the areas most affected by the DANA in the Valencian Community will be excluded.in order not to aggravate the situation of the areas that are still recovering from the catastrophe.
The employers’ association, for its part, has shown resistance to the measure, citing the high economic cost that its implementation would entail. However, the UGT has reiterated that the benefits in terms of safety and savings far outweigh the costs and reaffirmed its willingness to engage in dialogue with the administration and the employers’ association to reach an agreement to avoid an indefinite strike and benefit the entire sector.
