The mayor of Paiporta would join the court case: “We will ask for responsibilities. Whoever has done it, let him pay"

Last October 29, the worst DANA of the century swept Valencia leaving more than 200 dead and a large number of missing people in its wake. Now, almost three weeks after the tragedy, the affected neighbors continue to carry out the cleanup and debris removal work.

In addition, last weekend, the streets of Valencia were full of demonstrators demanding accountability from the authorities They should have informed the neighbors of the coming storm and of the measures that should have been taken to avoid the catastrophe.

This Monday, The critical view has been able to talk to Maribel Albalat, mayor of Paiporta, who has told how her town is recovering, little by little: “This weekend, the situation has improved quite a lot thanks to the arrival of more resources“.

“Now you can walk through the streets of Paiporta, even though there is still a long way to go to return to normality. As of yesterday, we have uniforms that the water is drinkable, although it is not a bad thing for people to drink bottled water,” said the mayor.

In the same way, Albalat has pointed out the need for supplies to continue arriving in the Valencian municipality: “There is not a single store in all Paiporta, only two pharmacies. We need to keep the distribution points open“.

“The word ‘normalcy’ is far from us. The health center works, but only for emergencies and treatment. Children cannot return to school nor is it viable for them to leave Paiporta. to go to other centers because it takes two or three hours to get out of here. We have to be clearer so that the children can go to school. We are working to open them as soon as possible“, added Maribel Albalat.

Finally, with regard to last Saturday’s demonstration, the mayor said: “I understand and value it, but I, at this time, I can not go to a demonstration because I have so many urgent problems in my municipality that I can only dedicate myself to this. I didn’t want to go into attacks because it is of no use to us, but I have already said that later on we will ask for explanations, responsibilities and we will see if we will take part in the case. The situation has been extremely serious. If someone is responsible… the one who has done it, let him pay for it.“.
