This Monday, King Felipe and Queen Letizia presided over the ceremony for the awarding of the Francisco Cerecedo’ Journalism Award 2024, awarded to the journalist Carlos Franganillo by the Association of European Journalists, for “his career as a reference in television journalism in Spain”, as well as “his independence, rigor, ability to innovate television journalistic formats and his vocation for reporting”.
In addition, the jury valued “his skill in transferring complex facts from the national and international current affairs to large audiences and its ability to inspire new generations of journalists”.
In his speech, the award winner had words to remember the thousands of families affected by the hurricane in Valencia and other Spanish provinces. Franganillo emphasized how this tragedy highlights the the need for information in times of uncertainty and how in this context, the journalist faces the arduous task of providing certainties: “Many times it is difficult to have them immediately. It takes time and work. A time that lies do not need”.
However, despite the challenges, he pointed out, “many people, in times of anxiety, will continue to seeking the credibility that is built up over the years. Because your hopes will depend on reliable information.”
This award is granted by the Association of European Journalists (APE) in order to highlight those careers that deserve this honor for their talent, originality, ability to transgress the pressures and influences of the powers that be and to promote freedom of expression. The award, sponsored by BBVA, is 24,000 euros and a bronze medal molded by Julio López Hernández.
“The Francisco Cerecedo Award aims to honor the most recalcitrant Gauls, the unconquerable ones who survive advice and kindnesses. With rigor, they challenge the bias of others and tell things not as they happen, but as they see them. Carlos Franganillo is an example of constancy and renunciation of stridency,” he said. the president of the Jury, Rodrigo Cortés.
The award ceremony was also attended by the leader of the Partido Popular, Alberto Núñez Feijóoand the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, Óscar López.
