The General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) gives its approval to the law for the protection of minors in the digital environment promoted by the Ministry of Youth and Children. The Plenary has unanimously approved this Wednesday the mandatory report of this regulation. which, according to its positive assessment, aims to regulate “specifically” the protection of minors in digital environments.
The Council of Ministers approved the preliminary draft last Juneand was pending the mandatory reports from the advisory bodies, before being approved in a second round and sent to the Congress of Deputies for its parliamentary processing. The law is the starting point of the Executive’s strategy to prevent and tackle the harmful effects of technologies on children and adolescents, and was already announced in January by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez.
The initiative, which has involved a group of 50 experts appointed by the department led by Sira Regoincludes relevant measures, such as a restraining order online; a reform of the Penal Code to punish ultra-counterfeiting or the groomingThe company has also introduced a number of other measures, such as health tests to detect addictions or harmful behaviors in the digital environment among minors; and the obligation for all technological devices to have, by default, a parental control system, among other measures.
