Sustainable architecture and young talent shine in Itesal’s IV National Novel Architecture Awards

Highlights architecture and construction professionals met on Thursday, in the presence of the Mayoress of Zaragoza, Natalia Chuecato award emerging talent and promote sustainability in architecture on the occasion of the IV Edition of the National Prize of Novel Architecture from Itesalin an event that took place at the Zaragoza Bridge Pavilion. On this occasion, the project “Carbonal Interrotto”.from Victor Jorgensenchosen from among the 27 papers receivedhas won the first prize, endowed with 4,000 euros.

During the event, Chueca has highlighted the importance of sustainable architecture and the value of these awards. After the inauguration, the general director of Itesal, Armando Mateosbegan by thanking all those who have made these Awards possible since the first edition, “especially the prestigious members of all the juries for their generosity and wisdom in recognizing the mastery of the winning projects, as well as their commitment to the highest values that they represent and that are in the bases of this award”.

For this reason, continued Mateos, “we are going to recognize two real projectsthat comply with all the principles of the competition rules, demonstrating their viability, and that have their authorship in architects who have been members of juries in special editions”.

Thus, they have been recognized with the “Special Mentions for Sustainable Built Architecture”. the renovation and extension of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Zaragoza, a project of Magén Architects which has counted on the carpentry executed with Itesal systems; the Skyline Building in Plaza Europa in Zaragoza, designed by Julio Clúa, of Clúa y Longás Arquitectos, and Francisco Mangado Beloki, of Mangado Asociados, which also has aluminum carpentry high performance Itesal.

For his part, Itesal’s Director of Institutional Relations, Circular Economy and Sustainability, René Sanz, in addition to praising the quality of all the recognized works, highlighted “the viability and the validity of the spirit of the Award whose mission is to recognize young architects who develop innovative and sustainable projects.”

Next, Carlos Turéganodean of the Official Association of Quantity Surveyors and Technical Architects of Zaragoza, has recognized the work of Itesal in promoting this award and has remarked on the the need to carry out “this type of incentives and motivations to creativity and excellence to Architecture”.

Finally, it has been carried out the IV National Architecture Award Novel Itesal. After the presentation of the jury of this edition, composed of the founding partner of Jerez Arquitectos, Enrique Jerez; the founding partner of Ingennus Urban Consulting, Ferrán Calzada; the director of architecture of Aedas Homes, José María González; the Founding Partner of BYE Arquitectos, Manuel Enríquez, and the senior architect at Tash & Partners, Mónica Domínguez, a selection of the participating projects has been shown and the winners of the call have been recognized.

During the award ceremony, the winner, Victor Jorgensen, said that “I am very happy to receive this award” and thanked Itesal for “the opportunity it gives to young architects”. He also recognized “the high level of all the proposals submitted.”

In this call for entries, the second prize, in the amount of 2,000 euroswas awarded to Marina Ponce, for her work “La estructura del Habitar”. During the course of the IV Itesal Novel Architecture Prize, three runner-up prizes were also awarded, of 500 euros each, at Juan Gaitán, for “Tessel”; Carmen Povedano, for “Habitat Research Center for Agricultural Production”, y Álvaro Pozo, for “Retiro postextractivista”.

The closing ceremony was in charge of the president of Itesal, David Gómez, who highlighted “the quality and creativity of the projects presented, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to the future of Spanish architecture”.
