The Supreme Court will investigate the former minister José Luis Ábalos for possible crimes of belonging to criminal organization, influence peddling, bribery and embezzlement of public funds. in the framework of the corruption scheme for the purchase of masks and other health material during the first months of the coronavirus pandemic.
The case, known as Koldo case by the name of Ábalos’ former advisor who was allegedly at the head of the corrupt scheme, carries more than a year in the Audiencia Nacionalbut when Judge Ismael Moreno found evidence against the former minister, he raised the investigation to the Supreme Court, due to the status of Ábalos as aforado. The high court has taken up the case, but before formally charging the deputy, he will have to ask permission from Congress.
Therefore, the high court will inquire into the actions that the ex-minister would have had in the plot, although the rest of the case will continue its course in the Audiencia Nacional.
