During his appearance on the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast/radio show, Dave Meltzer was asked about the upcoming Forbidden Door show and a potential working relationship between AEW and Stardom.
Meltzer said that there haven’t been talks but Stardom is interested. Meltzer said the following:
“As of a week ago there was no talk whatsoever. I know for a fact that Stardom is interested in working with AEW.” He added, “Stardom’s got their own big shows when they run Sumo Hall. I know Stardom would love to have Britt Baker, Thunder Rosa, those people on there [at the] Sumo Hall show at the end of the year. I don’t see anything on June 26th and really there shouldn’t be because then you start diluting things. There’s already between New Japan and AEW men, there’s way too many people to put on one show. You really almost need three because you’re gonna have people left off or all these six and eight man tags to get everyone on the show.”
Meltzer noted that since there are no women wrestlers in New Japan, the women should be held off the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door show and instead work on a big joint AEW-Stardom show.
Meltzer added, “I know Stardom would be interested and I would think AEW would be interested at some point.”
Additionally, Meltzer said the following in the Wrestling Observer newsletter: “The belief from the Bushiroad companies sides are that fans will be flying in like in the past for the Tokyo Dome and the hope is that they can get those fans to come early for the big Stardom show. In the past, the shows Stardom has done the day or two before the Tokyo Dome was packed with non-Japanese fans.”
