Considered the masterpiece of Italian author Luigi Pirandello and one of the most influential plays of 20th century theater, “Six Characters in Search of an Author” is once again claiming its space on the boards of the Teatro Principal from today until November 24. As highlighted by the manager-director of the Patronato Municipal de las Artes Escénicas y la Imagen, José María Turmo, at the presentation ceremony, the work is “called to be one of the most attractive productions of the season.”.
And no wonder. Arriving from Madrid by the hand of Producciones Faraute, will be uploaded to 12 characters on stage headed by Nuria Gallardo and Ramón Langaknown for his extensive career in film, theater, television, and as voice actor (Finding Nemo, Perdona si te llamo amor). Langa will play the character of El Padre and Gallardo, who already played La Hijastra in 1995, will play the character of La Madre on this occasion.
Antonio Álamo, in charge of the direction and adaptation of the text, has recalled that “the human landscape drawn by Pirandello is very heterogeneous and diverseThere is even a girl”, referring to the new actress Lena Vega. They will be accompanied by Ruth Gabriel, Aiden Botia, Eva Egido, Chema León, Paula Muñoz, Didier Otaola, Montse Peidro, Fernando Ramallo and Jorge Torres. Álamo and Pepa Gamboa will be in charge of the direction.
It is a century-old productionwhich has its origins in Rome in 1921 and arrived in Barcelona two years later. A play to which every now and then one returns to find answers to the unknowns left by Pirandello. On this occasion, Antonio Álamo tries to find the answers in his updated adaptation of this tragicomedy, where he does the audience a participant of what happens on the stage and with a simple staging, where lighting is the main protagonist.
Pirandello himself recounted that on Sunday mornings. he would give an audience to the characters of his future stories.who demanded that he bring them to life. There were usually three or four a week, until once a whole family appeared, incomplete characters who begged the author to finish his story and play out his drama. The play is a landmark of the modern theater that defies traditional conventions and plays with the boundaries between the real and the fictional.
