Roar Trailer Previews Apple’s Star-Studded Anthology Series


Apple TV+ has dropped the official Roar trailer for its forthcoming dark comedy anthology series, featuring an all-star cast including Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Issa Rae, and more. It is scheduled to make its debut on Friday, April 15.

The video, which you can check out below, gives us a preview of the eight genre-bending stories that will be featured in the series. These include unique stories about a woman eating photos, a woman who gets infatuated with a duck, a ghost of a woman who solves her own murder, and more.

Based on Cecilia Ahern’s book of short stories, Roar will be comprised of eight half-hour long episodes which are being described as a series of darkly comic feminist fables. The series adaptation is created by GLOW duo Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch, who are set as showrunners and executive producers as part of their overall deal with Apple.

“The series offers an insightful, poignant, and sometimes hilarious portrait of what it means to be a woman today,” reads the synopsis. “Featuring a unique blend of magical realism, familiar domestic and professional scenarios, and futuristic worlds, these eight stories mirror the dilemmas of ordinary women in accessible yet surprising ways. How they emerge from their respective journeys speaks to the resiliency that exists within themselves, and with all women.”

The anthology is being led by acclaimed actresses Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, Issa Rae, Merritt Wever, Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Meera Syal along with Fivel Stewart and Kara Hayward. Additional cast includes Daniel Dae Kim, Nick Kroll, Jake Johnson, Hugh Dancy, and Simon Baker.

Roar is a produced by Endeavor Content for Apple. On top of starring, Kidman is also attached as an executive producer along with Per Saari through their Blossom Films banner. Made Up Stories’ Bruna Papandrea, Steve Hutensky, and Allie Goss are also executive producing as well as Greenlight Go’s Ahern and Capital Productions’ Theresa Park.
