The outstanding Aragonese ephemeris of the day recalls that today, November 18, but in 1896, the painter Pablo Gonzalvo Pérez died, son of Pedro Gonzalvo and Engracia Pérez. He began his studies and training in his native Zaragoza, later moving to Madrid, one of the centers of the artistic world in Spain at that time. Enrolled in the San Fernando School of Fine Arts, he was a student of Federico de Madrazo. Gonzalvo became a member and later a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts of Cadiz and San Fernando in Madrid.
He made frequent trips to Rome, Venice, Vienna and Constantinople, thus broadening his perspective of the world of painting. His friendship with José Martí was notorious, who dedicated a poem to him in his Versos sencillos of 1891. In the National Fine Arts, he was awarded with honorable mention in 1856, third medal in 1858 and first in the editions of 1860, 1862. In 1867, he was awarded by Vista de la Lonja de la Seda in Valencia with the commendation of the Order of Carlos III. He died in Madrid at the age of 69, leaving a significant legacy in the art world.
