National incompetence | Juan Carlos Blanco’s opinion on the DANA in the Valencian Community

Three weeks after the tragic floods in Valencia it is very sad to witness this war of the Generalitat Valenciana and the Government of Spain. to see who acted worse in the hours prior to the floods. that devastated the south of the province, leaving behind 219 dead, more than a dozen missing and a region that will take decades to recover from this tragedy.

It is saddening and also painful to see the brazenness with which the PP and the PSOE have already engaged in the battle to unload the blame on the other party. of this drama and the political, media and citizen activism with which so many have dedicated themselves to defend their own and denigrate their rivals.

The time will come to purge political and surely criminal responsibilities for what happened. But now is the time to focus on the recovery efforts and, in the political field, to explain why why the State, as a whole, failed the citizens. at a time when they needed it most.

Look, if it comes to finger-pointing, very few are spared here. Carlos Mazón is being a grotesque example of what a leader should not be. of a population that has suffered a tragedy. The Generalitat de Valencia showed a shocking incompetence and extreme negligence. Y the Government of Spain failed to put all its resources on guard to mitigate this horror.

But to start talking about the competences of one or the other when what we have experienced is a case of massive incompetence is a lack of connection with reality that overwhelms. Here, as I say, the State has failed us. And what we need to do is to improve it so that it can live up to what is required and not dedicate itself to making electoral calculations that further alienate the citizens from those who represent them.
