Municipalities of Valencia, Alicante and Tarragona suspend classes this Wednesday in the face of the arrival of a new DANA

Some 50 municipalities of the Valencian Community -belonging to the provinces of Valencia and Alicante– have communicated this Tuesday the suspension of classes and sports activities in their towns this Wednesday in view of the arrival of a new DANA. In Catalonia, the Generalitat has taken the decision to suspend classes and restrict mobility in five counties of Tarragona due to the heavy rains expected on the occasion of the same meteorological phenomenon.

These decisions have been taken after the DANA that devastated part of the province of Valencia last October 29, and in view of the orange warning for rains of 40 liters per square meter in one hour, and 120 in twelve hours, activated by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the province of Valencia and in the north of the province of Alicante. In Tarragona, the meteorological institution has also activated the orange alert for rain and coastal phenomena.

As reported by the Conselleria de Educación, in the province of Valenciamany of the municipalities have announced the suspension of classes. severely affected by the floodssuch as Chiva, Aldaia, Paiporta, L’Alcudia, Algemesí or Torrent. In the province of Alicantethe municipalities that have communicated the suspension of classes are: Dénia, Xàbia, Llíber, Xaló, Alcalalí, Pedreguer, Gata de Gorgos, Senija, Orba, Teulada, Ondara, Pego and Els Poblets. Also those of Benissa, Benigembla, Sagra, Sanet i Negrals, El Ràfol d’Almúnia, Benimeli, El Verger, Teulada, Tormos, La Vall de Laguar and Benidoleig. For its part, Calpe has done so on Tuesday afternoon and has yet to determine whether to suspend them on Wednesday. In Castellónthe only municipalities that have so far communicated the closure of their schools due to the new DANA have been Benicarló, Peñíscola, Santa Magdalena de Pulpís and Alcalà de Xivert-Alcossebre.

As explained by the Councilor of Interior and Public Safety, Núria Parlon, the counties affected by the restrictions of mobility and in which classes have also been suspended in Tarragona are: Tarragonès, Montsià, Baix Ebre, Ribera d’Ebre and Baix Camp. Mobility restrictions will start from 06.00 hours and will be in force until midnight. Citizens living in the affected areas will receive on their cell phones a Civil Protection alertsince 100 liters can accumulate in these regions in 24 hours.
