Luisa Gavasa and Juanjo Artero travel from Baudelaire to Lorca with the music of Edith Piaf or Camarón.

Excited to return to the Zaragoza she left when she was 22 years old and which is the “land of the wind, of fireworks, of being small again”, Luisa Gavasa climbed this Thursday to the lectern of the Teatro Principal to present the new play with which she arrives home. She did not do it alone, but with another recognized face of the Spanish acting scene: Juanjo Artero. Both will be in the Teatro del Mercado from this Friday until Sunday with “The dream of cities. From Baudelaire to The Other Sentimentality”.

It is a journey through the poetic texts of some of the best pens of universal literature, from Machado to Rubén Darío passing through Lorca, Gioconda Belli or Luis García Montero.. They will also embrace the verses of an Aragonese, Miguel Labordeta, at the request of Luisa Gavasa herself. “I myself asked to do a text of that great poet from Aragon, Miguel Labordeta. In each of the functions I will dedicate it to my mañicos and mañicas who will be there applauding and supporting us. The text is also wonderful”, said the actress.

But not only poetry will live this show in which, by the way, the tickets for the first performance on Friday are already sold out, but also these texts will also dialogue with great masterpieces of music.. Camarón, Edith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Violeta Parra or Pedro Guerra will sound on the stage of the Teatro del Mercado thanks to the interpretation of the well-known musicians Jolís Gualda, Nicolás Medina and Rafael del Castillo.

“I admit that in some of these songs I have to leave the stage because I’m in tears. They evoke memories of my childhood and I think the show also has that emotional part. It’s something completely different from what I’ve done. I like it because you go through some magical places and you see how the audience also responds to you, recognizes the verses and most of the songs. The audience interacts and that’s great,” said actor Juanjo Artero.

With music and poetry, the show puts the city and its lights and shadows at the center, from its idealization as the place where dreams are lived to its less beautiful side.. A journey in which there will also be room for touches of humor. “For us it has been a magical process because we have a lot of connection and we love each other so much that it has been a delight”, both actors have recognized.

The manager of the Patronato de Artes Escénicas, José María Turmo, has praised this “beautiful and delicate bet” that, “for the quality and magnitude of the actors who play it should have been premiered in this house (referring to the Principal). “The programming is often like that and we cannot fight against it. We also have an exquisite opera program for this weekend.. We are grateful, of course, to have another municipal theater so that the people of Zaragoza will not be left without enjoying it”.

The performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
