To conclude the week, Pablo Motos received for the first time in El Hormiguero the actress Karla Sofía Gascón, who presented her new movie, the musical Emilia Pérezwhich will be released in theaters on December 5.
The interpreter was recognized for her work in this film at the last Cannes Film Festival with the award for best actress ex aequo along with her co-stars, the Jury Prize and a nine-minute long ovation after her presentation to the audience.
“You come to present a film that is the film that France is going to send to the Oscars and in some places they say you are the favorite to win. You would be the first trans woman to do so, how do you feel?” the presenter asked her.
The guest replied, “I don’t mind adjectives, maybe I’m also the tallest. It’s true that I am what I am, I’m a woman who has transitioned, but a woman”.
“I have had to develop despite the hatred of many people. If you use adjectives to praise a minority that is beaten I thank you,” she said.
“Have you suffered hatred for being trans?” the Valencian told him. “Yes, I have suffered it to the extreme. In Mexico they have even threatened to cut me up and throw me in a garbage bag,” Karla Sofía Gascón recalled.
Then, Motos told her how this situation could be improved for trans people. “By being good people and doing things right from now on. We can all be better people right now,” he replied.
The presenter also pointed out that, in the film, the actress plays a narco and then a woman: “What did you feel playing a male role?”.
“I didn’t feel anything special. The only thing I do is as an actress, to play a character. The more different from me the better. But my characters are not me, I just lend them my soul to reach the audience,” she assured.
