Two weeks after the tragic DANA that has claimed more than two hundred deaths, the leader of the PP defends, in part, the management of its popular baron and distributes responsibilities among the leaders of the central government, with the focus on the third vice president and Minister of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera. But above all, he makes it clear that “undoubtedly” he would have asked Pedro Sánchez to take control of the crisis if he were president of the Autonomous Communities, just as he would have declared of motu proprio the national emergency of being the President of the Government.
Alberto Núñez Feijóo vindicates the attitude being taken by the president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, after the floods, since he has given “the face from the first moment, continues to give the face and is the only one who has made self-criticism”, after this Monday he admitted “mistakes” and pointed to changes in his cabinet. Even more so after this Monday, Sanchez defended Ribera to the hilt. However, Feijóo has disavowed Mazón’s determination to want to take control of the situation while boasting about his management as president of the Xunta de Galicia during the crisis of the Prestige of 2002. Although he believes that the disaster of the chapapote was inevitable, “the beaches were clean and the people were paid after 15 days” and they made “a Galicia plan”, so he recommends “listening to the people and assuming” what lies ahead, he said in an interview on Antena 3.
Once assumed the possible errors by his popular baron, the leader of the opposition has focused the shot on the central government, which is the one that has all the resources of the State to manage a situation like this. “We must distinguish human errors from errors due to lack of humanity, we must be self-critical”, he emphasized in reference to the statements made by Sánchez the first weekend of the tragedy, when he offered help to the Generalitat if it requested it: “If they need help, let them ask for it”.
For Feijóo, the DANA is a “textbook” national emergency. And to prove it, he read Article 28 of the National Civil Protection System, which states that emergencies of national interest are considered “those in which it is necessary to provide for the coordination of various Administrations because they affect several Autonomous Communities and require a contribution of resources at a supra-autonomic level” and “those which, due to their actual or foreseeable dimensions, require a national direction”. Based on this, Feijóo wonders: “Is it that the Army is not a supra-autonomic resource?”.
In addition to accusing Sánchez “of a lack of humanity” and of “delegating” his competences and assuming that if “the Generalitat Valenciana were in the hands of the Government party, his behavior would have been different”, he has pointed out as many other mistakes that would have worsened the situation in the towns of Valencia. On the one hand, he has accused the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar, dependent on Ribera’s ministry, of committing a “negligence”. for giving “the information at 18.45 hours on Tuesday, having had it since 18.15 hours” and, in addition, doing it via e-mail.
He has also charged against the vice-president, who at the time of the catastrophe, was between Paris and Brussels. Thus he has taken the opportunity to show his rejection of her election as European Commissioner.She has therefore confirmed that her MEPs will vote against her in the examination to which the vice-president will be subjected this afternoon in the European Parliament.
