Drew McIntyre grew up as a kid seeing the WWE European Championship being defended during the late 1990s and early 2000s and now wants to see it come back, but for a personal reason.
In 2002, the European Championship was unified with the WWE Intercontinental Championship by Rob Van Dam. Although WWE has no current plans to bring it back, McIntyre hopes to see it return for one reason – so he can win it.
While speaking with Alex McCarthy of TalkSPORT, McIntyre stated he wants to win it and then the company can retire it again.
Yes! I just want it because when I was a kid and I saw it I was like ‘ah man, I want to be European Champion’ and now I can’t because it doesn’t exist right now. I don’t like too many titles and there are a lot right now, but I just wanted it when I was a kid. So just bring it back, let me win it and then I’ll retire it. You never want too many titles in the company because then it’s not as special. I think where we’re at right now is good, but give ol’ Drew the European title for young Drew.”
McIntyre is currently feuding with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns. He recently teamed with the Raw Tag Team Champions RK-Bro (Riddle & Randy Orton), but the trio fell short against The Bloodline (Reigns & The Usos) at WrestleMania Backlash this past Sunday night.
