City of Valencia and nearby towns suspend classes due to rain and mobility restrictions

The city of Valencia and towns in its metropolitan area have announced this Sunday, late in the afternoon and early in the evening, that they are suspending classes for this Monday due to the rain that are again affecting the province and because of the mobility restrictions decreed by the Generalitat to facilitate the work of the emergency services working in the populations affected by the DANA.

The Valencian capital, as well as other nearby municipalities, had indicated during the afternoon of this Sunday that resumed the activity of schools before given that the rains had ceased and that the regional administration had not yet announced that the traffic restrictions were extended for 48 more hours on the access roads to the municipalities most affected by the DANA.

Subsequently, in view of the arrival of new precipitation and the limitations to the circulation of vehicles, the decisions have been changed and school closures have been announced again.

The Valencia City Council had initially indicated that classes in schools were suspended for this Monday only in the following schools three districts of the municipality affected by the DANA -La Torre, Castellar-l’Oliveral and Forn d’Alcedo- and that were resumed in the rest of the city, but finally has pointed out that they will not be resumed throughout the Valencian capital.

Among the municipalities near this city where classes will be suspended is Mislata. This population has specified that sports and cultural activities will also be cancelled and municipal facilities will be closed to the public.

Likewise, Alboraia will have schools and sports facilities closed. Paterna has announced that classes and school activities will be suspended this Monday.

“Given the successive changes in the level of rainfall alert during this afternoon and tomorrow on the north coast of Valencia to which Paterna belongs and taking into account the extraordinary and tragic situation in the province of Valencia, in order that families paterneras we can already organize with our sons and daughters and jobs and above all to ensure the safety of our citizens, from the City Council of Paterna we inform that tomorrow Monday, November 4, we suspend classes and extracurricular activities”, has exposed this consistory.

Likewise, this local administration has advanced that it will keep closed until further notice the Parc Central and the Valencia street park.

The City Council of Godella has indicated, in the same way, that after the latest changes in the level of alert for the rains that for this Monday classes in the municipality are suspended for avoid displacements of both staff of the schools as well as of the students.

Populations affected by the DANA

The towns that maintain that it will not be possible to provide educational services from November 4 to 8 due to force majeure after the DANA are the most affected by this meteorological phenomenon: Albal, Alfafar, Algemesí, Alginet, Benetússer, Beniparrell, Catarroja, Cheste, Chiva, Dos Aguas, Godelleta, l’Alcudia, Massanassa, Paiporta, Picanya, Sedaví, Siete Aguas, Torrent, Utiel, Yátova, as well as the districts of Castellar-l’Oliveral, La Torre and Forn d’Alcedo in the city of València.

For its part, Aldaia will only open the centers located in Aldaia-Barrio del Cristo, added the Generalitat. In addition, there are councils that have moved that the closure will be punctual. This is the case of Montserrat, which will make a pilot test on Monday to determine whether access and facilities can function normally; and Xirivella, which will not open next day. On the other hand, Alaquàs will close between November 4 and 6.
