The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos MazónThis Saturday, he criticized the central government following the account of events released by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in the last few hours regarding the situation of the Forata dam on the day of the DANA and the warnings issued by the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI).
Through a message posted on the social network X, Mazón has reproached that the Ministry of Ecological Transition, if he knew the information of the risk of rupture of the Forata dam since 17.30 hours, did not take any decision or alert and criticized the “inaction of the central government when the lives of 80,000 people were in danger”.
“The Government of Spain was represented in the CECOPI, which was convened on the afternoon of October 29, and had full capacity to take command at any time if it knew that since 17.30 hours there was a risk that the dam would break,” said Mazón, who has regretted that “being able to act, they did absolutely nothing for three hours.” with the excuse of waiting for him.
In this sense, Mazón has recalled that the president of the Generalitat is not part of the CECOPI and his presence is not necessary to make any executive decision.
In view of this situation, Mazón continues, there are two “options”Either their argument (that of the Ministry for Ecological Transition) is false”, “or the Government knew from 5.30 p.m. that the dam could break without doing anything to alert the population when they had the capacity to do so”.
Mazón’s response has come after Aemet sources have stated this Saturday that the CECOPI did not take decisions between 17.00 and 19.00 hours of that day and that sources from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (Miteco) have pointed out that between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. hydrological alerts had already been activated. for overflowing of the Poyo ravine, Magro river, Júcar and Forata dam, as the situation was known to be very serious.
Miteco sources have assured that the critical situation in Forata was raised before 5.30 p.m. -almost three hours before the Es-Alert system was activated- and that the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar alerted Emergencias at 18.55 hours that the dam was discharging 633 m3/s. However, the massive Es Alert message to the cell phones of the population in Valencia was not sent until 20.11 hours.
