The Aragonese Pilar Palomero and Javier Macipe have been the protagonists of the first edition of the Action Awards organized by the Film Directors Association (Action). The gala, which was held this Saturday at the Film Academy, presented its awards for Direction of Fiction, Animation, Documentary and Novel, as well as an Honorary Award. which this year goes to Fernando Colomo.
Pilar Palomero won the award for Best Director of Fiction for her film “The Flashes”in this category it shared the nomination with Pedro Almodóvar by “The next room” y Javier Macipe by “The blue star”. This award joins the recognition of her new film, which was nominated for Best Film at the San Sebastian Festival and has two nominations for interpretation for the Forqué Awards 2024, which will be announced on December 14. This new award consolidates the upward trajectory of the Aragonese director, who had already captured the attention of critics and audiences after the success of her debut film “Las niñas”.
For its part, Javier Macipe was awarded as Best New Director by “The blue star”an achievement that underscores the promising start of his film career. The film, which tells the story of musician Mauricio Aznar, has captivated both critics and audiences, demonstrating Macipe’s emerging talent in directing and has been collecting a succession of awards and nominations. In fact, the film has three nominations for the Forqué awards and last Friday it received the audience award at the Alcalá de Henares Alcine Festival.
Also, Pablo Berger won the award for Best Animation Director for his acclaimed work “Robot Dreams.”a film that has captivated international audiences with its emotive visual storytelling. In the category of Best Documentary Directorthe award went to Almudena Carracedo y Robert Bahar for his work “You are not alone.”which addresses the issue of La Manada. Lastly, the ceremony also paid tribute to an emblematic figure of Spanish cinema, awarding the Honorary Award to Fernando Colomoin recognition of his extensive and significant career as a director, screenwriter and producer.
The ceremony not only celebrated artistic achievements, but also served as a platform to express solidarity. Speeches at the ceremony included messages of support for Valencia and the victims of the recent DANAreflecting the social commitment of the Spanish film community.
