An Aragonese company is at the controls of the new supertrucks circulating in Spain

The Aragonese company ACF Innove, a benchmark company in training, logistics and industrial machinery, has become a pioneer in the training of drivers for the handling of double trailers, the new giants of the road that circulate on the roads. Spain for the past nine months. These vehicles, which belong to the category of euromodular assemblies, are capable of transporting up to 72 tons and reach 32 meters in lengthThis is well beyond the dimensions and weight of traditional trailers.

After five years of experimental testing, the circulation of duo-trailers was officially authorized in January 2024 by the DGT through an instruction (the MOV 2023/28). This authorization, although transitory, allows the operation of these vehicles under certain restrictions and requirements, while awaiting a future modification of the General Vehicle Regulations. In order to be able to circulate with them, companies must apply for a special permit that is valid for two years and requires indicating the specific routes, mostly highways and freeways, where these supertrucks will be able to circulate.

The use of duo-trailers in the transport of goods represents a considerable change for the sector, especially in a country like ours, where up to 93% of goods reach us by road, according to the last annual report of the Transport Observatory and Logistics in Spain belonging to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. By making it possible to transport a larger amount of cargo with a single driver, resources are optimized, operating costs and CO2 emissions are reduced, thereby contributing to a greater transport efficiency. According to the International Road Transport Association (ASTIC), energy consumption reductions of between 25-30% are recorded with respect to traditional trucks.

However, their implementation in Spain, and Europe, is still subject to limitations. In fact, in Europe, only Spain and the Nordic countries allow their circulation, with France being a border for the departure of these trucks. In our country, duo-trailers can only circulate on certain roads and their operation is restricted to specific routes. In addition, accesses to factories and distribution centers are not always adapted to receive vehicles of these dimensions.
