This Tuesday has been revealed the list of artists selected for the Benidorm Fest, the event that will decide who will represent Spain at Eurovision. However, one of the absent names that has given more to talk about has been that of Víctor Sandovalwho had applied with Abyss. The exclusion of the collaborator has caused a stir, especially after the statements made by journalist Juanma Fernández on his show It’s not as if we werewho already anticipated the absence of Sandoval and Marta Riesco in the final list, although Sandoval was reluctant to believe it.

The news has led Sandoval to comment on the matter by means of a video call in which he did not hide his disappointment and expressed his point of view. In his words, he has not disguised his disappointment, because “as a singing Víctor Sandoval” he admitted: “I was really pissed off that I was not chosen”.

In spite of his displeasure, the TV talk show host said his enthusiasm for the presence of certain singers. “I like that Sonia and Selena, Melody and Kindom are in,” he has stated.

However, Sandoval wanted to make it clear that he has no intention of questioning the decisions made. “As a Eurofan, I’m going to follow everything as I have always followed it. I’m not going to question the jury because that’s what the jury is for,” he explained.

Despite her frustration, the artist seems to have found a new motivation. With a touch of humor, he affirmed: “I’m annoyed? Well, yes (…) I said I was never going to run again and now I’m going to run every year. Even if I’m 90 years old, I’m going to be there”.

His quarrel with Marta Riesco

After hearing his words, the also candidate Marta Riesco has not been slow to express her anger and has launched harsh criticisms towards her partner. Visibly upset, Riesco accused Sandoval of belittling her effort and work: “The only thing she has done is to undervalue my song”. In response to this statement, Sandoval described her as “egotistical”.

Riesco, however, has continued to defend his position, recalling the negative comments that, he assures, Sandoval has directed towards his work. “Every time he could he has said that my song was the worst,” he said. “To him, great artists and composers of this country have composed the song. We did it in one night in favor of the program. In the end the result has been exactly the same, yours, Victor, and mine. I just think you should be more humble and a better partner,” he added.

For his part, Sandoval has responded with a sincerity that left no doubt about his change of attitude. and showing his most ambitious side: “I have already put humility in a drawer this season, because I want to succeed in 2025, and I see that self-flagellation is not going to get me anywhere”.

Sandoval also has reflected on public support, which he considers key to his success.. “You know what has changed me the most? The people […] I’m not in because obviously it’s professionals who choose it, but if it had been chosen by the people I was in, even if I hadn’t gone to Eurovision, but I was in. Because they liked the song […] And that for me is a triumph”, he declared.
