Compromís and Podemos ask the Congress to investigate the Generalitat and the central government for the DANA

The demand for accountability for the management of the Valencia DANA disaster by public administrations reaches Congress. This Tuesday, both Compromís, on the one hand, and Podemos, on the other, announced that they are preparing requests to open a commission of inquiry in the Lower House to help “debug” the responsibilities for the failures in the management of the crisis. And both, both the purple and the Valencianistas, are committed to call members of the commission to the commission. of the Generalitat Valenciana and also of the Government of Spain.

Compromís and Podemos have not coordinated to present their requests for a commission of inquiry, although both assured this Tuesday that they are open to talk to bring to the Congress registry a joint text that can gather the support of the rest of the groups. In any case, it seems very complicated that this commission of inquiry ends up being launched, since PSOE sources consider that “it is not the right time” for the Lower House to start investigating the failures committed in a crisis that is still unfolding.

The PP, for its part, does not seem to be an ally in this matter either. for Podemos and Compromís, since both parties have directly pointed to the president Valencian president, the popular Carlos Mazón, as the main responsible for the failures in the management of the tragedy. Only Vox has expressed its willingness to study the requests for a commission of inquiry in Congress, although its votes, in the event that they were to provide them, would be clearly insufficient to set this body in motion.

To announce her intention to present a commission of inquiry, the spokeswoman of Compromís in Congress, Águeda Micó, who is also deputy spokeswoman of Sumar, stated that. her intention is to “clarify” everything that happened in the days of the environmental catastrophe. Micó said that the intention of his party is to put the focus on the Generalitat Valenciana, which is who “has the competence” in emergency matters, but also noted that the responsibilities affect “many sectoral areas”, including the Government of Spain, so he did not rule out requesting the appearance of the “ministers are competent in the matter relating to coordination and restructuring.”

In the same line, Javier Sanchez, deputy of Podemos in Congress, stated that it is “necessary that society knows all the details” of the management of the DANA crisis and that “it can be investigated in depth in Congress” the failures that occurred in that management. “We consider it fundamental that Mazón gives explanations about the decisions that were taken, and those that were not taken, on the afternoon of October 29,” said Sánchez, who insisted that, in Podemos’ opinion, it is also imperative that “ministers of the Spanish Government to explain why they did not declare the state of alarm”.
