In the saddest hour

I am lost watching the tragedy of these floods. I do not know what to say or what to do. What the kings have done to go and hug some of the victims helps me in a way in the distance, in the helplessness of a remote consumer of news. Or not so remote, today or tomorrow that nightmare of water could arrive here.the water that sometimes we need so much and that now kills us.

The gesture of the kings to go and give a hug, to receive the expletives, the mud and the pain, may help to console those affected, but perhaps it was also necessary for those of us who were spared this time.those of us who, from a certain distance, contemplate this horror. After all, that is what kings are for, their executive power only has jurisdiction over symbols, over people.

I am so lost that I have to write this line so as not to fall apart. I hold in the palm of my hand a map in real time, a magic crystal that obeys the fingeralmost an Aleph, a prodigious machine that shows where it rains, the wind direction, the pressure; I can also see the sky, the clouds (with a few minutes delay). So many technologies and so many powers of all kinds and I feel that they have not yet been applied. It’s still raining cats and dogs in other cities, the storm is coming. How many floors do I have to climb, what do I put in the survival backpack?

This idleness of the institutions forces us to be alert. Maybe the multi-organ failure is not due to nepotism, bureaucracy, kleptocracy, ineptitude… Maybe they have done it so that we get wise. A kind of training on the fly. It is possible that the institutions have deteriorated so much that even if they wanted to act well, they no longer had the strength, the reflexes, the courage. The routine has to be rehearsed many times.

In any case, since nothing indicates that they have assumed responsibility, it is better to prepare and prevent. Prepare a basic equipment of endurance, that weighs and occupies little, that contains the essentials. Papers, digital papers, pen drives, or better, portable memories, extra charger, water, attack food, almonds, peeled nuts, spare socks, blankets, thermal clothing, flashlight, lighter… what do I know?

Before the devastation of Valencia regurgitates the hell of Gaza, Beirut, Ukrainewhich were already fading away with the rubbing of habit.

I am lost in this wonderful country that every day is showing signs that it is functioning a little worsethat demands more, that the institutions (five or six on top of each other and often against each other) exercise tarnished despotism, aseptic brutality, use confusing jargon, Orwellian neo-languages. I am constantly reminded of Phy countries failwhich I have not read, which has this year’s Nobel Prize in economics. Here we are living and dying it live, on a daily basis.

I am lost in my own incompetence, but I thought the rest would work better.. I hold in the palm of my hand the map of the world in real time, the clouds, those satellites, so many wonders. In this crisis that has perhaps only just begun. the technologies that help us and frighten us have not been used.Shouldn’t a normal cell phone have an extra chip that always works, with minimum power, with a dedicated battery, and that allows it to be located anywhere?

We build in ravines, on the slopes of volcanoes and in dangerous places. And then they say that rent is expensive. We have risk maps, flood zones… right now very slow highways are being built in some of these areas. It is true that these brutal floods, like the one that devastated the Biescas camping site, happen from time to time and that we bet that it will not happen to us, but science warns -and we see it every day- that now they are more frequent.

The presence of the kings has perhaps served to transmit to the devastated people the affection and the embrace of the people who do not understand anything and who are far away -not very far either- and we do not know what to do and we are lost.

Without disasters, life already demands too much at all times, life already floods us every day. And it seems that the State helps less than it burdens. Even if you are not autonomous you feel its blades. Maybe that could explain the rise of crackpots who suddenly get to the top just by shouting that they are outside the system.

So, sometimes it comforts to know that there is a representation that goes to give a hug when everything has sunk, and to receive the complaints and the moans and the mud. Perhaps that is the only mission of the current kings, to go and embrace. The same when the cup is raised as when the coffin is lifted.

If the technology that fixes cataracts and predicts how a protein folds is not applied well, quickly and with breadth of vision, if it is withheld or used as a political weapon, it all goes to hell. If drones are taken out in time and allow a ten minute window to save life.s the administrations themselves justify the infinite bureaucracy that has made them forget what they are for and who they should serve.
