60,000 euros for home repairs and tax exemptions

The Government has approved this Tuesday in Council of Ministers an initial aid package to alleviate the catastrophe caused by the DANA valued at 10.6 billion euros. This is the first phase of a plan structured in three stages, covering a total of 75 municipalities and including. aid of up to 60,000 euros per damaged home.72,000 for disability and a maximum of 10,300 for replacing or repairing damaged or lost belongings. These amounts are four times the usual amounts in this type of catastrophes and will be universally available to all affected households.

This was announced this Tuesday by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchezin an appearance in which he explained that the measures will come into force as of this moment. “It is only the beginning, there is still a lot of work to be done. and we will be with our people until the end,” said the president.

The package includes some 838 million euros in direct aid for the self-employed and companies, which will translate into some 5,000 euros per self-employed worker and between 10,000 to 150,000 for affected companies.. Those affected by the catastrophe will also be able to defer payments on their mortgages or personal loans, 5,000 million Euros in public guarantees will be deployed and the Government will assume all emergency expenses incurred by the municipalities. The plan also includes tax exemptions on municipal taxes and deferrals in the payment of personal income tax returns.

The total amount of this first phase, focused on responding “immediately and urgently” to the catastrophe, falls far short of the Generalitat’s expectations.. The president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón, demanded on Tuesday from the Government a disbursement of 31,400 million euros in aid. An amount equivalent to the entire budget of the Generalitat for 2024. Mazón estimates the damage caused by the DANA in the region at 12,000 million euros.
